JOINT ANGLICAN/METHODIST SYNOD ON 24TH JANUARY 2005

This historic event took place in the Chaplaincy Centre at Lancaster University. By overwhelming majorities, both denominations agreed to these resolutions:

1. To encourage parishes and churches to engage in joint worship and fellowship
2. To encourage Circuits and Deaneries to engage in mission
3. To offer to those who wish, authorisation or licensing in accordance
with the usual discipline
(this refers to the arrangements for ministers to take part in services
in the other denomination, including those involving Communion)
4. In Diocese/District, Boards and Groups should invite "opposite numbers"
to consider together how they may work more collaboratively
5. The District Policy Committee and the Bishop's Council should invite
participant observers from each other

 DEREK PENWILL'S SPONSORED SLIM

A newly slimmed Derek Penwill has presented a cheque for £850 towards the Dolphinholme Chapel Building Fund. He wishes to thank all those who sponsored him. Since the presentation, more has been contributed, and the fund now stands at £969. A wonderful effort all round!

MRS ELIZABETH ROWE MBE

Members of Garstang Methodist Church were delighted to hear that one of their number, Elizabeth Rowe, had been awarded an MBE in the 2003 New Year Honours.
Mrs Rowe was selected by the local paper as Garstang's Citizen of the Year in 1999 in recognition of all the work she does for many orgnanisations in the voluntary sector.  Everyone is very pleased to see this wider acknowledgement of all she does for the church and for many charities.
She is pictured above with Rev John Maiden.

RECALLING SOME RECENT EVENTS IN THE CIRCUIT

THE CIRCUIT HOLIDAY/RETREAT

TO NORTH WALES IN JANUARY 2006

For the 7th successive year, members of the Circuit enjoyed a winter break at Beechwood Court Christian Endeavour Holiday Centre, Conwy. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing and pleasant atmosphere once again. The study sessions were based on the new publication "Time to Talk of God", and members returned to the Circuit with a new assessment of the challenge facing us in the 21st century. Once again the efficient and thoughtful organisation by Edith and Brian Gorst was much appreciated.

THE CIRCUIT SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 17TH 2002

The church at Garstang was full to welcome the Chairman of the District, Rev Stephen Poxon, and to witness a double event: an award in recognition of 40 years' service as a Local Preacher made to David Blanks, and the acceptance of Tony Cottom as a newly accredited Local Preacher.

 HOLIDAY CLUB AT SCORTON 2007

Yo-Ho M’hearties

Scorton Holiday Bible Club run jointly with St Peter’s Church Scorton and led by Karen Keep and her fantastic helpers –  during the last week of the school holidays.

Based on the story of St Paul, the quest has been to discover about St Paul and his life - they have explored aspects of Paul’s life and found out how the gospel is relevant in their own lives. Themed also around Pirates they have dug into episodes in Paul’s Life to learn how Jesus is the Greatest

In the evenings a group of teenagers have been studying a course called ‘Christianity Explored for youth’ and this has led to deep discussions about why Jesus matters to each of them. – they have also had their fair share of quiz nights, scavenger hunts, pizza making and some very messy games !

Well done to all who organised or took part in a brilliant week of activities in Scorton
