A discussion at our Hollins Lane Church recently centred on the
Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed, and it was noted
that neither included any mention of “love”.
One member did, however, recall the version of the creed
used in Sunday School many years ago, now apparently disused.
Here it is:
A CHILD’S CREED
From the School Hymn-Book of the Methodist Church
I believe in God, the Maker of all things and our Heavenly
Father, whose power and wisdom are seen in the heavens above,
in the world around, and in the life that is in us and in all
living things.
I believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord, Leader, Saviour and
Friend; who was once a baby in Bethlehem; who, as a boy in
Nazareth, grew in wisdom and in stature; who loved men and
women and children; who healed those that were ill; who
taught men about our Father, and showed them what He is like;
whose love is a pattern for our love; who was tempted as we
are; who died on the Cross to save us from our sins and bring
us to love Him; who rose from the dead and is with us always.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us all, who
teaches us what is right and true and beautiful, and gives us
strength to do God's will. And I believe in the fellowship of
all who love and follow Jesus, which is His Church.
I believe that we are in the hand of God our Father, who
forgives our sins, and has prepared a home in heaven for all
who love Him.
